Connel Bridge

This lovely cantilever bridge spans Loch Etive at its narrowest point, six miles north-east of Oban on the west coast . It was originally built to carry the Callander and Oban Railway's branch line to Ballachulish which opened in 1903. In 1914, a road was added next to the railway track, then in1966, the bridge was converted for the sole use of road vehicles and pedestrians.

Below: some of my photos from the last time I was there

View across the water

The rapids here are amazing to watch during the ebbing tide. The seawater in the loch streams out through narrows creating strong currents and waves.

Hi Jane, thanks for your note; all the best to you too for 2010. You beat me to it and I'm sorry I have not kept in touch with your great blogs these last few months...Lauren got married in mid Oct at loch Lomondside and I changed jobs in Sept..so it's been a very, very busy year..Thus just some recent recovery of time to update all my stuff.
Trusting you and Geoffrey have decent year again. Br, Denis.

Hello Jane, nice to discover your blog. How are your plans going for returning to Scotland? I don't know the area around Connel Bridge - it's always good to see a new bit of Scotland!
Just checked your profile and see you're also a fan of the original Survivors series ('75-'77)

Thank you all! Only just saw these posts because I wasn't alerted to them by Blogger.

Plans for moving not going well at all because we can't sell our house here in Wales :-(

Best wishes to all of you, must try and keep in better touch!
