Falkirk Wheel

We visited the amazing Falkirk Wheel last October (2008) in terrible rainstorms, but it was a great day out nevertheless once we were indoors! The cafe was very pleasant, the gift shop full of interesting things, and the one-hour long "Falkirk Wheel Experience" was in an enclosed boat (thank goodness). All the staff were friendly and extremely well informed and there was an excellent commentary explaining the history and construction of this magnificent feat of engineering.

Here we are at one of the tables!

Some of my short movie clips below from the boat:

The official website is here
and the Wikipedia page here is interesting and informative too

I went for the first time in May of last year and fulfilled one of my ambitions. I wasn't disappointed. Good pictures. Cheers.

It looks like a wonderful (and beautiful) piece of engineering, and I look forward to seeing it one day - preferably from a canal boat.

I'd be hoping for better weather, though...!
